The General High School Experience

Freshmen Year:

  • The beginning, fun, new year.
  • Finding a group of friends
  • Losing friends from Middle School
  • Getting used to the Campus
  • Making Upperclassmen friends who drive

Sophomore Year:

  • The crappiest, shittiest, stupidest year.
  • Everyone gets into fights/emo sessions/crap happens
  • Group of friends goes through drama
  • Grow closer to individuals
  • Want the year to be over!

Junior Year:

  • The year you prepare for college & forgiveness/mending friendships/getting old friends back year.

  • Your “class” grows closer together/more spirit
  • Everyone starts to drive/stress for SATs/college thoughts
  • The fun skip class, let’s chill and go out sessions stuff

Senior Year:

  • The BEST year.
  • You finally know who your group of friends are
  • You find your style
  • College Applications & Essays & Letters of Recommendations
  • You teach underclassmen your experience, have the time of your life, wishing that graduating wasn’t the end, and simply enjoy every last minute of high school.

Volunteer activities should NOT constitute as a field trip

I would write this in my private blog but no, this is just screaming out of my mind right now. I walked away from my computer and sat down to study only to rise up again to write this because it just makes me so angry.

So as you guys know, I`m in Key Club. In fact, I`m my school`s president. Now, other people in Key Club, please tell me if I`m wrong but isn`t Key Club is supposed to encouraging service among high schoolers, if not everyone?  And schools should be encouraging volunteer activities right? Now here I have on the 19th of December, this nice lady from the Salvation Army who DESPERATELY needs some volunteers to help pack 500+ boxes for the holidays and you know what, my faculty advisor is unable to go. Big deal right? So what if she isn`t able to go? WRONG. It is a ‘BIG DEAL’ if she doesn`t go. Because if she doesn`t go, then I need to find another faculty advisor. Why do I need to find another faculty advisor? Because our school district doesn`t allow ANY out of school functions without a person hired by the district going along with. Not even if its ONE student. So now what do I do if I don`t have another faculty advisor? Well, we can`t go. But then what happens to the lady with 500+ unpacked boxes? Well, she gets screwed over because we couldn`t go because our faculty advisor was busy and we couldn`t find another person hired by the district that was able to go on short notice and even if we had some responsible adults going, we wouldn`t be allowed to because our district requires us to have at least one district employee to go with a school group to an outside of school function.

Well that`s just great, isn`t it? I know we possibly could have possibly found someone earlier, but sometimes its just not possible to find someone a month in advance.

This is whats making me so upset right now. I mean, my parents are willing to chaperone. We could find our own rides, take BART, get some parents maybe. We`ll sign the permission slips and everything. What is the real point in making us bring our faculty advisor? Are they afraid we`re actually not packing boxes or serving food or tutoring kids? We`ll take pictures if you want us to prove it! I don`t understand.
